Solar Walk 2 – Solar System 3D App Reviews

Entertaining and Educational

You play with the app and learn the whole time. SO well put together. Beautiful. Glorious on the iPad Pro! The ONLY suggestion, and its a small one, is on the info sheet where the body is compared to earth, the panels are single cells, but the data is in a row. A LITTLE confusing. SUPER informative and well done on the graphic panels. Just the data, maybe keep in one cell... Awesome awesome awesome app!

Not great

Not that great as it shows and costs!!

A. Very amateur sky viewer with questions

Almost all of my questions have either been answered or I now have more information to further find what Im looking for. This is a great APP !!

Disappointed - A Rant

True to my word Ive come back a few times to check out the updates and to read user reviews. I sincerely hoped Id be able to find something had improved but sadly thats not the case. The developers of this app must not appreciate negative reviews. They dont seem to be listening to what people are saying since they dont address the main thing that nearly everyone is unhappy with. That is: the navigation controls. Do the developers really think their controls arent a problem?!? Take a look through the reviews yourself, then try out the controls in Solar Walk 2 & finally compare them to the way the controls worked in the first Solar Walk. If you honestly think theyve improved upon the controls since their first app then leave a review here saying why you think so. If you dont like the new controls then leave a review here too but also consider contacting the developer to tell them personally. The controls are not the only aspect thats lacking our needs fixing. Heres my short list of the most important issues needing to be addressed: Lack of settings Timeline Zoom in/out Galaxy mode Exoplanets Hide labels Lack of realism Pixelated planets when zoomed in I could go on but these are the biggest problems. I still use the 1st Solar Walk b/c it really is better than its sequel in many ways. Its a shame really. If I were alone or the only review saying these things I may let it go & assume its my own problem but this simply isnt the reality. The developers seem to be ignoring a large number of its users who rightfully unhappy with the product theyve paid for. Whats worse is not only being ignored but theyre patting themselves on the back for a job well done. That, to me, is insulting. Therefore, I refuse to use SW2 until these issues are addressed. I recommend anyone who feels as I do to do the same. Tell them whats on your mind! Updated 05/28/2016 Below is my original review: As soon as I saw Solar Walk had made a sequel to its first Solar System app I had to buy it. I liked the first one so much that I didnt think it would be possible that Id find Solar Walk 2 to be a disappointment, but it is. First, I dont like the new controls. It makes the app feel very limited because rather than be able to zoom as far in or out as youd like youre limited. As soon as you zoom a little ways you hit a wall. If you keep trying to zoom youll snap to the next point. This feature has devastating effect to the feel of depth within the app. It makes the solar system feel very small. My next issue is with the graphics for the planets, mainly the earth. I like the HD feature in the first Solar Walk so much better than the one used in this sequel. It doesnt look realistic at all. The moving atmosphere seems very gimmicky. All of the planets/Sun seem to have an animated atmosphere now and the only one that I even kinda liked was Jupiters but it becomes very obvious right away that its just an animation loop. The noises and sounds for each planet is annoying and immediately wanted to turn them off. The settings are lacking, to say the least. There are so many controls Id like to have that are missing. Another thing about the planets that I found to be lazy is yay when you rotate to the night side of the planet ask you see is a dark blue half of a sphere. It doesnt look realistic at all. Rather it looks more like they just didnt want to fill in the other half of the planet. There could be a setting that allowed for a dimmed version of the night side with the planets visible features still noticeable, just darkened. Then there could also be a true night feature where the planets dark side its completely enveloped by darkness or how we see just the sliver of a moon. I dislike the new time controls and would rather use the previous Solar Walk version. The info for all of the planets and objects are regurgitated from the first app. I miss being able to zoom out all the way to the galaxy view. The list goes on and on. Im so disappointed that I feel like I wasted my money. Ill come back from time to time to see if they improved out any but I wont hold my breath. This all couldve and shouldve been so much better. Its really a shame. The first update did address a few of my complaints but overall Im still quite dissatisfied.

Crap app

Just bought it and found out I have to "Upgrade" to get it to do what I want to do. Talk about The Bait And Switch.

Great app...kind of pricey.

Theres a lot of great information in this app. Unfortunately, you have to pay for all the extras to truly enjoy it. I would also like to see an approximation of exoplanets around the stars. That would get this app five stars easily!

Doesnt work

Waste of money. Tried to open it but it just freezes up on the opening page.

Disappointed

I use this app since its first release and always enjoyed it. Now you presenting Solar Walk 2, what is the difference between new and old version? I was hoped all together we could make it even better. Yes, youve released Dino Walk, Sky live, added new packages... Why I can not see it here, in a new product? I understand its business and I agree to pay for it. So do it right !

Very disappointing

I had SW1 and I upgraded to SW2 just to see the Juno mission (since I got a notification for it in SW1). Much to my disappointment after buying SW2 I discovered that I still needed to now buy a subscription as well instead of just being able to view the Juno mission. Badly done guys! I feel ripped off right now. Had I known that Id need to pay additional in order to see the Juno mission I never wouldve bought the upgrade! SW1 suited my needs adequately. It wouldve been nice to know that ahead. I felt very mislead by the notification that an update would enable me to see the Juno mission. This was not true!!! Very very disappointed! :(

Good app

This app is fine. BUT I HATE THE NEW NAVIGATION!!! I LIKED HOW YOU COULD ZOOM OUT AS MUCH AS YOU WANTED IN THE FIRST APP!! And I do not like how when you zoom far away from a planet, It will be replaced by a giant dot! In the first game, the dot was small, and looked more realistic. The giant dots look horrible and unrealistic when you take a screenshot of the solar system from far away. Seriously! In this app, Pluto looks as big as the sun from far away!!!! But this app has MUCH better graphics than the first one, besides the missions. Suggestions: Idas moon, dactyl REMOVE THE PLANET DOTS!! Change the movement!! Add more info about titan!! It only talked about how big it is!! What about the methane lakes!! And thick atmosphere! Better missions!! Add animations!! Like in the first app!! In the first app, you can see curiosity moving and taking samples!! But in this app, all you see is a badly made, non moving rover. The developers got lazy on the missions!! This app has more missions than the first one, but the few missions in the first app are much better quality!!

Limited functionality

Solar Walk 1 was great, but this second version is questionable. I even paid for additional access to certain add-ons with Solar Walk 1. Solar Walk 2 seems like they are nickel diming me. I cannot access information like I had before and in order to do so one needs to purchase a subscription! I can understand there is a cost to doing business, so maybe offer a one time charge. I am really disappointed in their new way of doing business and am thinking about deleting.

Amazing app! Hurts battery life though

I love using this app and exploring everything. I bought the full access to everything. The absolute only complaint I have is it kills battery life. My phone gets really hot after just a few minutes of use. I have an iPhone6s plus. I understand there is a lot of effects to run but I would still love it if I could use this app without having to plan on plugging my phone in later. Other than that, great great app. I would highly recommend it!

Horrible Rip off DONT BUY

IT IS A PURE CASH GRAB ONCE YOU PAY YOU HAVE TO PAY $8.99 TO VIEW PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING LIKE THE ISS PLUTOS MOON CURIOSITY ETC. I WANT A REFUND. WAY TO LOSE POPULARITY GUYS GOOD JOB

Solar Walk 2 is AMAZING!

Solar Walk 2 in my personal opinion is the best app on the App Store, Therefore making it the best astronomy app on the market! With all the NASA missions and all the Planets and Stars! It is truly the best app, Beautiful graphics etc. But there are a couple suggestions I have for the team. 1. Add Tiangong 2 2. Add The Milky Way: Saw this on the "On The Rocks" music video, Where is it? 3. Add Orion (2014) Spacecraft 4. Add ISS Section (Mentioned Above) 5. Add Deep Impact Mission 6. Add the Other Moons to Pluto 7. Add 2014 MU69 (New Horizons) 8. Apple Watch Improvement: There should be something where the Apple Watch and the Solar Walk 2 calendar sync and it is available as a watch face complication. - Antonio

Wonderful app

This app is great. My favorite without a doubt

Incredible Graphics!

This is currently the best space exploration app. The graphics are amazing and theres a ton of information and things to explore. Suggestions: 1. The sun is white, not yellow. 2. The dark side of planets and moons should be much darker than grey. 3. Adding the Milky Way would be dope.

INSANE!

this app is CRAZY good!...absolutely STUNNING!

Wont even open

This works fine immediately after install on the first run, but once you close it fully and then try and relaunch it sticks and I just get the title screen with music. Devs please fix this! Im running iOS 9.3.1 on an iPad4 and iPhone5s. Thank you.

P.O.S.

The first one was awesome. This one is unstable. Ive had two major problems with this app in 6 months. First - it would not renew my stupid premium access. They did refund me however. But its BS that we should have to pay extra after paying the price they want for this app... Without the premium access (which is a lot for unlimited and no time restriction ) the app is useless,.. Just get an Encyclopedia cause youll get more info from that... And now ? The app wont even open up on my iPhone 5S.

ANNOYINGLY UNRELIABLE. But great when it works

From the look of another review here, Im not alone on this one: Literally have to install it anew every time I want to use it, because otherwise it simply will not open. Stays stuck on the title screen, unresponsive, with music playing in the background. If I open it right after a fresh install, it will open and its pretty awesome. But goodness forbid that we open another app or let the iPad 2 go to sleep for a moment. Because then it just wont go again until deleted and re-installed..
